DP0016: What is the best way to add a hat to my character model template? (Props) In general, all the props are in a separate master template and used when it is needed for cut out animation. So to add a hat to an existing template character, you should create a props template and add a hat for that character separately. This props template should be named for the character and have the prop in it's proper position relative to the character (and view/orientation), with the correct pivot point defined as it is for any body part. Generally you should not add any extra stuff (props) into the master template after creating a master rig template if you make use of action templates. When you add an action pose to the master rig character, the structure of the action pose has to be same as the master rig character pose structure. Now if you have created a hat and add it to a master rig character, you must also add a hat to existing action templates otherwise the action templates will not be using the same structure as the master template. For props, a better approach is to use a props template for the character and to bring in an instance of the prop after the action has been brought in. the reasoning for this is that props are usually a one-time event and it would require more effort than the resulting benefits to re-work the character's master template and all action templates. |
